I. Ball Valve Temperature and Pressure Limitations
For valve seats and seals made of PTFE or RTFE, the operating temperature should be between -290℃ and 2000℃. The operating temperature for other types of valve seats and seals should be verified by the factory.
The nominal pressure rating (PN) of the valve indicates its ultimate operating pressure at normal temperatures. For example, PN4.0 indicates that its ultimate operating pressure is 40 Bar (4.0 MPa) at an operating temperature of -290℃ to 380℃.
For precautions regarding electric or pneumatic actuators, refer to their respective instruction manuals.
II. Ball Valve Installation
1. Remove the protective caps on both sides of the flange and flush the valve with it fully open.
2. Before installation, perform a full-machine test according to the specified signals (electric or pneumatic) (to prevent vibrations during transportation from affecting performance). Only after passing the test can the valve be installed online (wiring refers to the wiring diagram for electric actuators). 3. Before connecting to the pipeline, flush and remove any remaining impurities from the pipeline (these substances may damage the valve seat and ball).
4. During installation, do not use the valve actuator as a lifting point to avoid damaging the actuator and accessories.
5. This type of valve should be installed horizontally or vertically on the pipeline.
6. The pipeline near the installation point should not sag or be subjected to external forces. Pipeline supports or braces can be used to eliminate pipeline deviation.
7. After connecting to the pipeline, tighten the flange bolts crosswise with the specified torque.
III. Operation and Use of Ball Valves
1. Before operation, ensure that the pipeline and valve have been flushed.
2. Valve operation is completed by rotating the valve stem according to the input signal of the actuator: a 1/4 turn clockwise rotation closes the valve; a 1/4 turn counterclockwise rotation opens the valve.
3. When the actuator direction indicator arrow is parallel to the pipeline, the valve is open; when the indicator arrow is perpendicular to the pipeline, the valve is closed.
IV. Ball Valve Maintenance A long service life and maintenance-free period depend on several factors: normal operating conditions, maintaining a harmonious temperature/pressure ratio, and reasonable corrosion data.
Note: Even when the ball valve is closed, pressurized fluid still exists inside the valve body.
Before maintenance, release the pipeline pressure and place the valve in the open position.
Before maintenance, disconnect the power or air supply.
Before maintenance, detach the actuator from the bracket.
1. Retighten the packing.
If there is a slight leak at the packing, retighten the valve stem nut.
Note: Do not overtighten; usually, tightening it another 1/4 turn to 1 turn will stop the leak.
2. Replace the valve seat and seals.
A) Disassembly
With the valve in a semi-open position, flush and remove any potentially hazardous substances from inside and outside the valve body.
Close the ball valve, remove the connecting bolts and nuts on both flanges, and then completely remove the valve from the pipeline.
Disassemble the drive unit, actuator, connecting bracket, anti-loosening washer, valve stem nut, butterfly spring, grate, wear-resistant plate, and valve stem packing in sequence.
Remove the cover bolts and nuts to separate the valve cover from the valve body, and remove the cover gasket.
Confirm the valve ball is in the “off” position, which makes it easier to remove from the valve body. Then remove the valve seat.
Gently push the valve stem downwards through the valve body’s central hole until it is completely removed, then remove the O-ring and the packing gland under the valve stem.
Caution: Handle with care to avoid scratching the valve stem surface and the valve body packing gland seal.
B) Reassembly
Clean and inspect the removed parts. It is strongly recommended to replace the valve seat and cover gasket, etc., with spare parts.
Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
Tighten the flange bolts crosswise with the specified torque.
Tighten the valve stem nut with the specified torque.
After installing the actuator, input the appropriate signal to rotate the valve stem, causing the valve core to rotate and the valve to the open and closed positions.
If possible, perform pressure sealing and performance tests on the valve according to relevant standards before reinstalling it in the pipeline.
