The 2010 National Model Workers and Advanced Workers Commendation Conference was solemnly held on the morning of April 27th at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Qiu Xiaolai, Chief Engineer of Zhejiang Chaoda Valve Co., Ltd., was named a 2010 National Model Worker. Qiu Xiaolai, Chief Engineer of Chaoda Valve Group (formerly Zhejiang Chaoda Valve Co., Ltd.), attended the 2010 National Model Workers and Advanced Workers Commendation Conference, where Party and state leaders presented him with the National Model Worker certificate.
A model worker, or “labor model” for short, is an honorary title awarded to workers who have made outstanding achievements in socialist construction, after democratic selection by employees, review by relevant departments, and approval by the government. The model worker awarded by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council is the “National Model Worker.” This award is attributed to the Yongjia County Party Committee and County Government’s emphasis on scientific and technological talent.
In 1995, Qiu Xiao, former deputy director of the Valve Research Office of the General Machinery Research Institute of the Ministry of Machinery Industry, joined Chaoda Valve Group as chief engineer and director of the Technology Research and Development Center. He was the leader of several key enterprise research institutes, provincial-level enterprise technology centers, provincial-level technology research and development centers, and key enterprise technology innovation teams in Zhejiang Province. He received numerous national patents, national key new product awards, provincial new product awards, and National Torch Program awards. Qiu Xiao also undertook several research projects funded by relevant national institutions, winning several provincial and ministerial-level science and technology progress awards, including a third-class provincial and ministerial-level science and technology progress award and a work achievement award from the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society.
